Text Box: If you witness a swarm in or near your home, you can easily determine if it is ants or termites.
Though carpenter ants may vary in size and in color, they are usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch and blackish.
 It is not unusual for swarms of winged reproductive ants to  emerge inside a home, most commonly in the spring. 
They are a sure sign that a colony is nesting somewhere in the structure.
